SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGH! (Sort Of)

Whats the first thing that comes to your mind when you here the phrase "3-D game" with new nintendo game system written after it. I do not know about you but I would not say any thing. Instead, I will stare wide eyes my jaw wide open for about five seconds before I act like a monkey and jump around the whole house screaming like a donkey. Well atleast that's what I will be doing in my brain. The thing is I am sort of a video game addict who loves 3-D games. Since the entire virtual world is jumping into 3-D, nintendo the biggest game system company in the world has decided to join the ride. In my opinion this would maybe be a scientific breakthrough. Oh, and also one of the single most wonderful moments of my life because I love Nintendo systems and games and I also love 3-D, so this is a very cool scientific breakthrough if you ask me. How I found this amazing piece of news you ask? Well I had some homework and had to make a blog on something when I saw a picture of a DS with a 3-D mario on it. I immediatly clicked on the link my heart skipping a beat. Ok, fine I wasn't really that excited I was just happy that I might have found something interesting for my blog. After reading what it was mainly about my initial shcok weared off and the next thing the claimed my thoughts was that how?? I know that every 3-D movie or game needs special glasses but the article said that it didn't use them. Puzzled I read on to find out that it does this using extremly sensitive tilting technology. Yeah maybe it really wasn't a scientific breakthrough rather a clever use of the technology already available. Well I was still excited to read that this master peice had already came out in Japan and would soon come to America in 3 months. I am going to ask no beg no cry so my parents to give me it on my birthday that will come soon after. I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!

Is A Snowacane Really That Bad?

This simple storm that caused a light snowfall in Texas is quickly picking up some momentum. With winds expected to reach over 50 mph the national weather service is still not sure if this storm should be classified as a Hurricane. This is becuase of the fact that Hurricanes are considered to have winds over 75mph. This snow storm has seemed to been caused by air full of moisture gathering in the south to move upward causing the warm air to move north resulting in winds and also causing more snow. People are calling this a snowacane because of the highwinds similar to hurricanes. This storm is also expected to cause floods to places near the coast as well. In contrast Hurricanes form when a cloud mass gets really big and eventually the rotation from the Earths axis cause the cloud mass to circle around a hole then causing a Hurricane. The Snowacane was formed similerly but instead of rain it gives off snow hence the name "snowacane". This snow storm is causing many incoviences to communities. This storm is causing alot of sleet causing many traffic hazards. Schools are also forced to give early releases and snowdays. Further north well into maine it seem they must extend school into the summer. At this point everyone on the east coast are just wishing for winter to end.

Relationship with Global Warming & Math

The relationship with Global Warming and Math is that global warming has many numerical things in it. These things include number relating to amount of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitros oxide in the air and atmosphere. For example one website says that America releases more then 100,000 ton of carbon dioxide into to the air every year. Well, that definitely is a number to me. Some other numbers in global warming are how many species of animals of gone extinct because of it. Or even the rising levels of Co2 in the past decade shown is in numbers. This also has another relationship with math. Graphs. The rising carbon and other greenhouse gases are shown on graphs that show their dramatically rising levels in the past 20 years. Math also plays a role in showing people the ugly truth about global warming. It helps with all sorts of graphs, numbers, predictions, averages, and many other things that wont fit. Just goes to show you math plays a role in almost everything.

Plant Stealer

Have you ever thought an animal can be a plant? Well I as sure didn't. That is until I saw the title surprising sea slug half-plant and half-animal. This really threw me off and everything i knew about animals. My curiosity then took over and I went to investigate. They say that the little animal was found producing the plant pigment chlorophyll. What does that mean was my next thought?!?!?! Well the article then said it was a plant. Well right then i thought that was a pretty fancy name for a plant. But who am I to argue, scientists could name stuff anything they want. But then I started thinking to myself. Wow this is getting pretty boring. I mean wo-hoo it can make a plant lets all go back to our lives now. But just for the fun of it I read on. Turns out I was wrong. That was a big event. A biologist named Sidney Pierce from South Florida Tampa stated "they can make energy without eating." Well that wasn't exactly what she said. But to tell you a truth I did you a favor. I mean it said something that I really couldn't understand. Energy-containing molecules. How does that fit into to the sentence was all I made out of of the phrase. In my opinion the important thing was they could basically use solar power to get energy. Isn't that cool. But wait. How could these slugs actually do that? They couldn't have evolved not the right conditions. My answer came later in this amazing article. Scientists say that these guys so much algae (microscopic plants) that they practically stole their ability. At that moment I was mind-locked. Tell you what I don not really know what to call it so the best I could come with was cool. Yeah I know really sophisticated but there are no other words to describe it. Islands Make Waves In the Clouds!

Islands not really moving but can make waves is something I never really thought about. But when I read that they sometimes make very dramatic waves n the clouds I was dumbfounded. Actually a satallite image has shown that the South Sandwitch island chain triggers V-shaped cloud that span out to the east and look like whit clouds against the ocean water. Nasa has explained that and island disturbs the smooth flow of air causing to go downwind. But your probably thinking, why is NASA explaining things about clouds? Well thats because rockets need to go throught the sky to get to space and this is something related to the sky. Well hears something a proffesional said. He said that the moist cloudy air over the ocean usually has a layer dry air witch is weird because it's right above a body of water. A huge body. When the wave ripples through the atmosphere downwind of the islands, clouds form at the crests of the waves becuase air cools as it rises. This then resulting in cloud droplets. I was actually wondering how the air becomes cloud droplets if it cools down its only suppose to become cloud droplets if water heats up and rises. Not cool down. Well the guy had also said that some of the warm air sinks into the the cool moist layer. This then therefore replaces the cloudy air. Also as the air sinks in the clouds warm up and evaporate thus causing the ripples or "waves" in the clouds.

The Mystery of Flamingos

Of the many mysterys in nature, why our pink friends the Flamingos stand on one leg is one of them. Well I had no clue, so I investigated. I found out that scientists have many theories on why they have this behavior. But when the phsycologist Matthew Anderson was studying why flamingos stand on their left leg or the other he figured that no one had actually ever tested their own theories out. So he and his friend traveled to the Philadelphia Zoo to test them out. One popular theory was to help reduce muscle stress so they can escape faster from predators. After testing this out they found that they actually moved faster when standing on two legs. This, amazed me. Another one had said standing on one leg would reduce contact with parisites and fungi. I thought this one was pretty reasonable. When Mr. Matthew went deeper into this he remembered that Flamingos spent alot of there time in the water. Which brings me into another theory. That they act like this to conserve body heat, because the water saps out alot of heat and cuddling one foot would help conserve alot. This was definetly the right answer to me, and Mr. Matthew agrees. What do you say?
